China’s Xi Jinping once again vowed the full reunification of Taiwan with the Chinese mainland. He said that they would do everything possible to seek a peaceful reunification but that military force would be used if necessary.

He made these remarks at a major party meeting. During this meeting, it is expected that he will solidify another five-year term for himself thus making him the most consequential Chinese leader since Mao.

Xi made other comments about continuing to develop China’s economy while bolstering their military in a lengthy speech.

As I’ve said many times before, it is just a matter of when and not if China officially reunifies Taiwan with the mainland. The West is growing weaker by the day and have been pouring unlimited resources into the Ukraine conflict. They aren’t in a position where they could defend Taiwan from a military incursion by Chinese forces.

China would obviously prefer to reunify Taiwan with the mainland peacefully, but at some point if that is not feasible, they will exercise the military option. Much of this decision will depend on what the West does or doesn’t do.
