Obviously progress on the border wall has been an extreme disappointment. This story further illustrates it.

Daily Mail:

The United States government has built no new border walls during the Trump administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed exclusively to DailyMail.com on Thursday.

Border barriers erected between the U.S. and Mexico since Inauguration Day 2017 have consisted of supplements to existing walls and replacements for outmoded or decreipt sections.

‘The first new wall project, where no barrier currently exists, is anticipated to start in April,’ CBP spokesman Roger Maier said in an email. He identified Hidalgo County as the construction project’s location, a border zone along a meandering 50-mile stretch of the Rio Grande.

CBP said last year that it was ‘designing and constructing approximately 25 miles of levee wall system’ in that county, whose anchor is the the border city of McAllen.

President Donald Trump visited McAllen on January 11, boasting of wall renovations that he framed as ‘new’ construction. ‘I will say, we’ve done a lot of renovation. And we have a lot of new wall going up where we took down wall because it was in such bad shape, and we put new wall up,’ he said.

To be fair, some of this is semantics. There have been lots of new barriers put up to replace ineffective barriers and this is definitely something that was needed. Unfortunately, there has been no progress on building barriers in places where barriers previously did not exist.

Ann Coulter was challenging Trump to provide the coordinates of new border wall and Trump has not accepted the challenge.

We also had a group of Senate Republicans vote against Trump’s national emergency declaration to secure funding to build more wall. They apparently did this to show how principled they are and because they’re afraid a Democrat would do crazy stuff with national emergency powers. The thing is, they are going to do crazy stuff with these powers regardless of what Republicans do or don’t do. So the entire idea of opposing the order is stupid and insane. Trump said yesterday that he’s vetoing it.

But at this point, even if the wall does get fully built, it doesn’t matter. Trump has said he wants immigrants to come in and fill jobs. So if there’s a legal mechanism for all these third world hordes to continue coming in, it doesn’t matter if there’s a wall or not. They’ll just apply for green cards and continue the demographic changes of the country.

And in other news, it looks like Paul Ryan has jumped on board the Trump Train. That’s because Republicans are about ideas and not tangible accomplishments. Go figure right?
