I guess they are just throwing this out there to create confusion and to distract people from the fact that the Ukrainians have been attacking the plant. It’s also a slightly less retarded excuse than claiming that Russians are attacking a nuclear power plant that they control. This was literally what they were claiming just a short time ago.
In fact, there are some outlets like the Jewish paper of record that are still advancing this idea. They’re acting like it is a matter of dispute over who has been shelling the plant that everyone agrees is under Russian control.
