Considering that most of Europe is indirectly waging war against them by sending weapons into Ukraine, I would have strongly considered just closing off all gas and energy supplies. But forcing these unfriendly countries to pay for their energy products in rubles has been a very good strategy. It has helped bring their currency to higher levels than even before all the sanctions were imposed against them.
It’s possible that they are just buying time and plan to close off all energy to Europe as the situation develops. It isn’t like they need them. Europe needs their energy more than they need to sell it to them. The rest of the world is perfectly willing to buy their energy so they don’t need Europe as customers.
Russia is holding all the cards. They can totally implode Europe’s economies and force them to reconsider their insane Ukraine policies.
