As the world is increasingly backing Palestine and calling out Israeli war crimes, Benjamin Netanyahu is facing mounting troubles domestically. The Knesset just held a meeting to discuss his potential removal.

He was already significantly unpopular prior to the October 7th attacks due to judiciary changes he pushed down everyone’s throat. This has not changed and one could argue that it has gotten far worse for him since the attacks.

Many Israelis personally blame him for the security failure and don’t believe that he cares about the hostages currently held by Hamas. His political brand has largely been centered around being “Mr. Security” and his claim that he was the most qualified person to keep Israel safe. The Hamas attacks have shattered this political branding.

76 percent of Israelis want him to resign and many Jews have been protesting him. There have been regular protests outside his personal residence since October 7th.

Very few Israelis trust what he’s saying about the war.

He’s also been the subject of a significant corruption probe.

We have a situation where he needs to stay in political power or he risks spending the rest of his life in prison. This is a big part of the reason why he has gone crazy and is doing a genocide in Gaza. The war distracts from all of these other political problems he has. Of course, he also risks being executed for the horrible war crimes he’s committed but he seems less concerned about such a prospect.

Either way, he is mostly concerned about his own personal future. What happens to Israel is of secondary importance to him. That’s why it wouldn’t be shocking to see him do increasingly more insane and crazy things. He’s like a rabid dog that’s been forced into a corner.
