There’s all sorts of stupid political theater taking place between Republicans and Democrats over the debt limit. The Democrats proposed ending the debt limit entirely and this was rejected by Republicans.

In the end, Mitch McConnell is just going to go along with another ad-hoc raise in the debt limit while getting nothing in exchange for it.

If McConnell were actually worth a shit he’d use the debt limit as a negotiating tool to get some things your average Republican voter would want. Nobody gives a fuck if the government gets shut down during negotiations. We closed the whole country down over a hoax pandemic, so if the government closes for a few weeks, it would not be the end of the world.
McConnell is not going to do that though. I can pretty much guarantee it. That’s why this debate over the debt limit is nothing more than a giant circle jerk.
The country is already bankrupt. The only thing keeping it going is unlimited money printing from the Federal Reserve which I expect will continue until we have hyperinflation. Raising the debt limit is just a way to keep this whole pyramid scam going.
Hopefully I’m wrong and McConnell refuses to raise the debt limit and causes the United States to go into a debt default. That’d be hilarious, but there’s basically zero chance this will happen.
