Elon Musk just did a big unveiling of this large robot dubbed “Optimus.”

I’m not exactly sure what sort of practical use this type of large robot will have. I guess the idea is that these big robots would be able to do various types of industrial and factory work. Of course, there’s already all sorts of robotic automation in factories around the world. It’s just that the robotics aren’t in a form like Optimus.

The whole robot unveiling seems to be more of a public relations stunt to promote the Tesla brand than anything else. Who knows though, maybe they’ll be able to develop these things into having a practical use. It’s not impossible to believe they eventually could do this.

The thing is, we have very major societal problems and I’m not sure how any meaningful progress can be made considering the situation we have. We’ll likely have a total economic and social implosion before Musk is able to release a line of functioning giant robots. The short term future looks very bleak.

I just want basic things. Things like free speech on the Internet. These basic things should be a higher priority than building giant robots.
