The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is there in case of emergencies.

It is only going to make things worse in the long term which is undoubtedly the point of the policy. There is not an unlimited supply of petroleum in the reserve.
On top of that, the Federal Trade Commission is investigating the oil and gas industry because of high prices that were caused by government policies.

It’s just continued insanity from this evil regime. They clearly want higher gas prices. The dumping of petroleum from the reserve is just to make people think they don’t actually want higher gas prices.
Don’t be surprised to see $10 for a gallon of regular gas at some point.
