The Department of Justice has announced that it is filing an antitrust lawsuit against Google.

Republicans are cheering the move acting as if this is going to solve the issue of big tech censoring speech.

Take for instance this tweet from Jim Jordan.

Hey Jim, this isn’t going to do shit to protect free speech. If you break up Google into 100 different companies, the end result will be 100 different companies that censor speech instead of one large company that stifles speech.

And sure, I suppose some action against Google is better than no action, but this does not target the real problem. It looks as if the DOJ is just doing this to make people believe that they are taking big tech censorship seriously.

What the DOJ should be doing is targeting them criminally for interfering in the American electoral process. If they did that, you can bet it would get the attention of Google’s management. But this will not happen with Bill Barr running the DOJ.
