Meta is reportedly set to lay off a large number of employees who worked on their Metaverse virtual reality system.

I honestly can’t believe they thought this Metaverse concept was a good idea. Making people buy expensive goggle devices to roam around in a virtual reality universe for no specific reason never made any sense to me. They literally poured billions of dollars into this crazy project.
The virtual reality of the Metaverse wasn’t even good. When it launched they had avatars without legs and all sorts of weirdness. I guess it has been improved since then, but at this point who the hell cares? People barely have enough money to pay for basic necessities and one of the last things anybody is going to buy is a virtual reality headset to wander around in this weird dystopic virtual reality.
The fact that they are going to be eliminating the people responsible for putting all this together seems to be an admission that the entire project has failed.
