A few days ago, Proud Boys founder and political commentator Gavin McInnes appeared to be arrested by federal agents as he live streamed his show. Bizarrely, there is still no confirmation of who arrested him or where he is being held. It is leading people to believe that it might be a hoax or a publicity stunt of some kind. The people around him are denying that it is a hoax and are saying that they can’t talk about the details of the situation.

I get not talking to the media, but if he was really arrested, what would be the purpose of not telling his audience who he was arrested by?

There is currently no documented record of him being arrested or held by either local police or the FBI.

It’s looking more likely that this is a hoax of some kind.

The other possibility is that the government is starting to secretly arrest right-wing people. But why would you start the process of secretly arresting right-wing figures by arresting someone as they are streaming a show on the Internet?

Considering his history, McInnes himself is probably compromised by the feds, so if this does turn out to be a hoax, it may have been the feds ordering him to go along with a fake arrest. This would help set the stage for them doing real secret arrests of people. It would make at least some of the public falsely believe that the real secret arrests they start doing are hoaxes.

We’ll just have to see how this develops. Maybe there is another alternative explanation as to what happened here, but it is hard to say what that would be.
