The European Union announced that they are banning Russian media from operating in the bloc. RT and Sputnik have specifically been banned. They’re also banning Russian aircraft from flying in EU airspace.
Second, we will ban the Kremlin’s media machine in the EU.
The state-owned Russia Today and Sputnik, and their subsidiaries,
will no longer be able to spread their lies to justify Putin’s war.
We are developing tools to ban their toxic and harmful disinformation in Europe. pic.twitter.com/7RcPEn6E14— Ursula von der Leyen (@vonderleyen) February 27, 2022
They’re saying Russian media outlets are spreading “disinformation.” This is false as this move is really about preventing the Russian narrative of events from being seen and heard by people. There are objectively far more lies pushed in Western media than there is in Russian media. While the Russian media absolutely has its own spin, there is more accurate and serious reporting on the Russian media.
These people are proving yet again that they do not value free speech. It’s a joke that they even try to claim that they support free speech after what we saw with the COVID-19 hoax. This just further reinforces it.
On top of that, they’re apparently sending war planes into Ukraine.
Rather extraordinary that the announcement that Europe was going to send *fighter planes* to Ukraine was made in answer to a question, by an EU official few people outside Brussels would recognise. It's… a big deal!

This is pointless. Does Ukraine have pilots to fly them? Maybe they haven’t gotten the news that the “Ghost of Kyiv” pilot doesn’t exist.
By the time these war planes get sent to Ukraine, Russia will probably have already taken control over much if not all of the country.
This is not a serious response, but no surprising considering the EU is run by people who are not serious. They are taking on a serious country with a serious leader and their response to what’s going on in Ukraine has been farcical.
