With all the coronavirus hysteria in the media, we are probably going to hear much less about Islamic terrorism now. But apparently the Saudi airman who was invited to the United States for military training and did a mass shooting at a Pensacola military base last year had connections to Al-Qaeda. This was discovered after the FBI unlocked the encryption on the shooter’s cellphone.

AP:

The gunman in a deadly attack at a military base in Pensacola, Florida, last December was meticulous in his planning and had been radicalized overseas for at least five years, U.S. officials said Monday.

The FBI learned of the contacts between the gunman, Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, and an al-Qaida operative after breaking the encryption on cellphones that had previously been locked.

Attorney General William Barr and FBI Director Chris Wray held a news conference to announce the developments in the shooting late last year at the Pensacola Naval Air Station, in which a Saudi Air Force officer killed three U.S. sailors and injured eight other people.

And sure, I don’t trust the FBI worth a shit, but it is not surprising that a Saudi and even a Saudi military officer would be connected to an Islamic terrorist group.

This whole incident illustrates how insane it is for us to have any sort of military connections to Saudi Arabia. The fact that we were training Saudis on how to fly aircraft after the 9/11 attacks is just plain nuts. 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were Saudis and they were given aid and logistical help by the Saudi government.

But yeah, let’s just train these same people on how to fly military aircraft. Total genius move. And we are surprised when one of them turns out to have connections to Al-Qaeda and shoots a bunch of people at one of our military bases.
