The head of NATO Jens Stoltenberg is publicly stating that the Russia-Ukraine conflict is going to drag on for some time. This war would have been over months ago if NATO didn’t step in to actively support the Ukraine. It is effectively a failed state and relies mostly on aid from the United States to function.

RT:

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine will not be ending any time soon, despite Kiev’s “effective” counter-attack against Moscow’s troops, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg claims.

Speaking to BBC Radio on Friday, the NATO chief said that it is “extremely encouraging to see that Ukrainian armed forces have been able to take back territory and also strike behind Russian lines.”

However, he stressed it is important to understand that “this is not the beginning of the end of the war, we have to be prepared for the long haul.”

Stoltenberg’s comments come after Russia announced the withdrawal of its troops from several settlements in northeastern Ukraine, including the city of Izium. Moscow maintains the step was taken to strengthen forces in Donetsk, while Kiev celebrated the Russian withdrawal as a victory.

I think Stoltenberg knows that this whole thing is a debacle but he’s trying to put a positive spin on the debacle. He knows that the recent counteroffensive was mostly conducted for political reasons. Even though it was a Ukrainian victory, it is not very consequential in the grand scheme of things. Russia has only deployed a small portion of their power in this special military operation and the counteroffensive did not take back a substantial amount of land.

The fact of the matter is that NATO is being bled dry. Even the United States is being forced to take resources from their active duty military personnel to give to the Ukraine. They just approved another $600 million worth of weapons.

There are also numerous reports of American soldiers and other foreign mercenaries being involved in the fighting.

Most people believe that this is happening despite denials by the guilty parties.

As I’ve said over and over again, it will be impossible for the West to sustain these efforts indefinitely. The West is imploding economically. The longer this goes on, the more economically destructive it will be for the West. That’s actually the more important geopolitical battle. The military battle in the Ukraine is in many respects, secondary to the economic war that’s going on.

Russia continues to have the upper hand in this conflict. It’s extremely foolish for the West to continue this.

If there’s a path to victory for the West, I certainly do not see what it is. Nukes maybe? What else can they do?
