The United Nations is a totally useless institution. What purpose does it even serve? It just gives faceless bureaucrats a platform to make bullshit pronouncements that make no sense.

Take for instance how one of these “human rights” bureaucrats is demanding Facebook do more to fight “hate speech.”

AFP:

The UN human rights chief urged Facebook Wednesday to more proactively address hate speech but warned against excessive regulation, after US President Donald Trump accused tech giants’ platforms of bias against him.

Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein’s appeal follows a decision by Facebook this week to ban Myanmar’s army chief and other top military brass named in a UN probe linking them to a possible “genocide” against Rohingya Muslims.

The social media network is the prime source of news and information for many in the country, but has also been a platform for the army and Buddhist hardliners to spread hate speech against the Rohingya and other minorities.

The site aired support for the military’s bloody “clearance operations” last year that forced some 700,000 Rohingya over the border into Bangladesh.

So Facebook’s online army of thought police is not enough? They need to do more? Facebook is already one of the most censored online platforms anywhere.

This is an insane demand. Not to mention that nobody has any clear definition of what “hate speech” is so such a demand is impossible to enforce. It is an entirely subjective thing that is constantly redefined.

Someone whose entire job is focused on “human rights” should understand that the right to free political speech is a natural right that all people should have. But instead, he wants to suppress this natural right under the guise of suppressing “hate speech.” He has everything backwards which is not a surprise considering that the term “backwards” describes everything the UN does.

The big social media platforms like Facebook should be supporting free political speech. But instead of that, they are censoring political speech based on arbitrary guidelines that are always changing.
