Obviously none of us have been thrilled with the progress that’s been made on the border wall. However, President Trump does deserve some credit. Key sections of the border are being reinforced with new wall.

Take for instance this construction project in San Diego where 14 miles of a 30 foot tall wall is going up.

AP:

Construction has begun on the fifth border wall project of Donald Trump’s presidency, replacing up to 14 miles of barrier in San Diego.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Tuesday that the first panels are in place to replace a steel-mesh fence with steel bollards up to 30 feet high. SLSCO Ltd. of Galveston, Texas, was awarded the $101 million contract in December.

It is the second layer of barrier in San Diego. Work on replacing the first layer is nearly complete, which is also 14 miles long and made of steel bollards up to 30 feet high.

I know some people have said that Trump has failed because there haven’t been many new sections of wall that have gone up. However, reinforcing places that have poor fencing or just vehicle barriers with a new wall is very important. It is especially important in a place like San Diego which has a large population density.

Trump also tweeted about another project in New Mexico where 20 miles of new wall has just been completed.

Washington Examiner:

President Trump tweeted Wednesday that a new section of the border wall just erected in New Mexico, and he was telling the truth.

Customs and Border Protection confirmed in an email to me that the wall referenced in Trump’s tweet was a project announced in April 2018 to build 20 miles of new steel wall that replaced small fencing that prevents vehicle crossing. The new barriers are from 18 to 30 feet high, depending on the terrain.

Based on this, I do believe Trump wants to get the wall built. I also don’t think he would have done the national emergency declaration if his wall rhetoric was just talk. The problem is that he has lots of people fighting him who don’t want the wall built. But as we can see, they’re losing the battle. As new sections of wall get installed, these people are not going to be able to take them down. They will become a permanent fixture and this is what has them so angry.
