Just when I thought Apple couldn’t make the smartphone industry any more retarded, Samsung has upped their game. They are promoting a $2,000 smartphone that folds!

The Verge:

Samsung first teased its foldable phone back in November, and at the company’s Galaxy Unpacked event today, it’s further detailing its foldable plans. Samsung’s foldable now has a name, the Samsung Galaxy Fold, and the company is revealing more about what this unique smartphone can do. Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy Fold on April 26th, starting at $1,980, through AT&T and T-Mobile in the US, with a free pair of Samsung’s new wireless earbuds. There will be both an LTE and 5G version of the Galaxy Fold, and Samsung is even planning on launching the device in Europe on May 3rd, starting at 2,000 euros.

Why the fuck would I need a smartphone that folds? Please explain that to me because I don’t understand the practical purpose this serves. And Samsung wants me to pay around $2,000 for this thing?

The fact that they’re calling it the Galaxy Fold indicates to me that they want people to believe that the folding capabilities of this device are a very big deal.

Sorry guys, but I don’t get it. This looks like yet another useless “innovation” in an industry that is struggling to come up with new things a smartphone can do to justify charging shit tons of money for the product.

There’s no reason to pay over $1,000 for a smartphone let alone $2,000 for one. The smartphone industry is a commodity industry now. All the meaningful smartphone innovations happened years ago. It’s like they’re trying to squeeze blood out of a stone now with this type of shit.
