Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral was today. I haven’t really bothered to talk about it, but it has been an ongoing media event since her death.

The funeral itself has been quite a spectacular event. The British do deserve great credit for putting on an event of this magnitude.

Unfortunately, Meghan Markle was allowed to be present.

King Charles III allowed her to attend while reports surfaced that Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping were not invited because of political reasons.

Not sure how that makes any sense considering how the Queen was an apolitical figure.

I’ve been critical of the Queen because for many decades she was in a position to defend her people and the empire that she inherited. She failed to defend it and oversaw much of its decline. I still believe that this is a fair criticism of her reign and nobody can tell me different.

But with that said, her funeral has shown that the monarchy is a powerful uniting force for the British people. This in of itself is reason enough for the monarchy to continue in some form. I’d actually support Prince William ruling over the UK versus the parliamentary shit show they have now. Maybe that can happen as we get deeper into this collapse.
