It’s becoming increasingly more obvious that the President of the United States does not have full control over the federal government. Just as President Trump is trying to negotiate a proper trade deal with the Chinese, the Chief Financial Officer of Huawei, Meng Wanzhou, has been arrested in Canada under highly dubious circumstances. She was arrested at a Canadian airport apparently for violating sanctions that prohibited the sales of technology to Iran.

BBC:

Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Chinese telecoms giant Huawei, is facing fraud charges relating to alleged breaking of US sanctions on Iran, a Canadian court has heard.

Details of the charges were revealed when a publication ban was lifted by a judge in Vancouver.

Ms Meng, daughter of Huawei’s founder, was arrested in the city on Saturday and faces extradition to the US.

The court is deciding whether or not to allow bail.

China has demanded Ms Meng’s release, insisting she has not violated any laws.

Huawei is a Chinese telecom that makes more cellphones than Apple. They are an enormous Chinese company. Arresting the CFO of Huawei is a pretty big deal and it sabotages Trump’s ability to workout a trade deal with the Chinese. Wanzhou is also a prominent figure in China and it is safe to assume that the Chinese aren’t very happy about this.

Some news reports have compared her to being the Huawei equivalent of Ivanka Trump in the Trump Organization and that’s probably a fair comparison.

But there’s no way Trump would have ordered something like this just as they were appearing to make progress with China. They had already arranged to wait 90 days before going hardcore with tariffs.

There’s just people inside the federal government who are deliberately seeking to destroy Trump’s presidency. What other purpose would there be for this arrest?
