The FBI gave fake bombs to a Filipino military veteran who recently converted to Islam and arrested him after he took the fake bombs.
A U.S. combat veteran of the war in Afghanistan who prosecutors say plotted to detonate multiple nail bombs at a Los Angeles-area white nationalist rally, seeking to cause mass casualties, was arrested in an FBI sting operation, federal prosecutors said on Monday.
Mark Steven Domingo, 26, a U.S. Army infantryman who recently converted to Islam, was taken into custody on Friday after undercover FBI operatives furnished him with what he thought were live bombs to be used in the attack, law enforcement officials said.
Authorities said Domingo, who had no prior criminal record, came to their attention because of a series of violent extremist messages he posted in online chat rooms, one of which called for “retribution” for the massacre of 50 people at mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, by a gunman in March.
“Often we are asked what keeps us up at night. This is a case that keeps us up at night,” Ryan Young, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, told a news conference in Los Angeles.
Domingo, who had purchased several hundred long nails to serve as shrapnel in the homemade pressure-cooker bombs, had also suggested attacks on Jews, police officers, churches, a military facility, Southern California freeways and the Santa Monica Pier during internet conversations with the FBI operatives, Young said.
We’ve seen the FBI do this over and over again. They find a crazy person online or in real life and convince them to do terrorism and then arrest them when they try to do the terrorism. They use this to give the public a false sense of how effective they are at stopping terrorism.
The truth is, the FBI is a joke. They only do this sort of thing to justify their budgets and their general existence. It’s also meant to justify the insane police state and security measures we have everywhere. Even though we wouldn’t need any of this nonsense if we just put an end to multiculturalism. Especially if we just banned Moslems as they are the group of people most likely to do terrorism.
What’s weird about this specific plot is how it involved a plan to attack an April 28th White Nationalist rally. Ultimately, the rally never occurred so no attack could take place.
And even though most of these terror plots are hoaxes, the FBI did provide real explosives that were eventually used to attack the World Trade Center in 1993. So this might have been part a larger FBI plot to bomb the White Nationalist rally that did not manifest itself.
But generally speaking, it seems as if the FBI does this sort of hoax terror bust thing every six to eight weeks. This isn’t a hard and fast rule, but that seems to be the general regularity of how often we see this type of thing.
