The Democrat leadership look rattled after participating in a two hour meeting with President Trump. They met to try and find a way forward to reopen the government. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer issued very brief statements and only took one question from the press. They did not look happy nor confident about the situation.

That’s because they’re on the losing side of the issue. President Trump said during their meeting that he’d be willing to keep the government closed for months if not years. And all because the Democrats refuse to provide $5.6 billion dollars for a border wall to keep America safe. They’re taking a position that is against the national security interests of the country for abstract bullshit reasons that make no logical sense.

President Trump gave a press conference and took numerous questions from the media. He touted new jobs numbers and once again articulated the need for the border wall. He also said that Vice President Mike Pence would be leading a team to negotiate with Democrats over the weekend.

During the Q&A session he said that he had the authority to declare a national emergency and use the military to build the border wall. His preference is just to have it funded through Congressional action.

If this thing drags on, that’s the move he should make. He absolutely has the authority to do this and there’s nothing the Democrats can do except cry about it.

But for now, he’s winning this fight. The Democrats are not going to be able to convince him to reopen the government without funding for the border wall. Meanwhile, Democrats have told us that the government shutdown is the worst thing ever. Well, if it is as horrible as they say it is, what’s the harm of giving President Trump $5.6 billion for the border wall? Especially when it is for national security purposes.
